Nomadesk 4.0 Reviewed By PC Magazine

Michael Muchmore, PC Magazine’s lead analyst for software and Web applications reviewed the latest Nomadesk release.
Here are but a few of his “discoveries”:
“Nomadesk goes beyond other syncing and file-sharing services, creating a complete virtual disk… If you just want a virtual drive synched to your PCs and the cloud, Nomadesk is worth a look.”
“A big green button on the Nomadesk webpage offers live support with an engineer in a chat window. There’s also e-mail and phone support (CET office hours only). For a Web service, these avenues are quite generous. Indeed, I got a tech rep in my chat box in seconds.”
“If the idea of anywhere access to your digital assets appeals to you, Nomadesk is worth checking out. After all, spending $50 per year to sync a full hard drive’s worth of data is a much better deal than the Syncplicity’s $15 a month for 50GB. It’s also cheaper than PC Mag Editors’ Choice Dropbox, which costs $100 a year for 50GB.”

Get a Free Eye-Fi Card with a 1- year Team Fileserver or 2-year Personal Fileserver subscription!
Today we announced a Summer Fun Promotion throughout the month of June 2010, which will give our customers who pre-pay for
a new one-year Team Fileserver subscription or a new two-year Personal Fileserver subscription a free Eye-Fi Connect X2 4GB card (valued at $49).
By bundling Nomadesk with an Eye-Fi card, customers will receive the ability to automatically safeguard their memories to the Nomadesk cloud and synchronize their photos to their computers for easy storage and sharing; video uploads to the Nomadesk cloud will be supported soon.
So, rather than downloading photos through a memory card that you connect directly into your computer, Nomadesk now brilliantly works with Eye-Fi to remotely save photos into the Nomadesk file server without having to physically import them from your digital camera memory card. And for just $180 a year for a Nomadesk Team Fileserver or $100 for two years of a Personal Fileserver, you can get unlimited storage (Fair Use).
By the way, you might want to use the “Nomadesk Web Site Widget” to automatically post your photos on your web site or blog, directly from your camera; much like what we have done here below – utter coolness!

Why Cloud Makes Sense for Small Business
April 23, 2010 by Filip Tack · Leave a Comment
The cloud storage space is quite cloudy these days with many new companies springing
up claiming they are offering more for less or even for free. Ever hear the saying, “You get what you pay for?” Here are some of the key elements of why cloud storage and collaboration makes sense for a SMB or SME, but shopping for the right solution matters. And finding the most secure and trusting solution provider makes all the difference.
Raining in Benefits from the Cloud – The main reasons why companies move to Cloud Computing:
Save Money; You won’t waste money buying and upgrading hardware and software or be bothered with having to pay for breakdowns.
Freedom; You are free to access your data from anywhere you have an internet connection (with Nomadesk, even where you don’t).
Save Time; There’s no more frustration or time lost waiting for IT problems and glitches to be fixed.
Peace of Mind; Enjoy the comfort of complete protection from unwanted surprises such as loss of data that could slow you up or even shut down your business, sometimes for good.
In a recent article published by Delfin Joaquin Paris III on BestTipsTechnology.com he outlines the key benefits of cloud storage for small businesses. Here is his list:
Synchronization; Cloud storage enables consumers to sync documents immediately between computer systems on the local system network. Cloud storage indicates you can reduce or eliminate the need for actually moving your data from one machine to another and even the need to email documents around the office.
Collaboration; Similar to GoogleDocs, a lot of cloud-storage suppliers now allow customers to view and modify data (spreadsheets, presentations, as well as word processing documents, as an example) by means of an online portal. This is especially a good choice for supporting geographically dispersed employees to work with others instantly.
File Sharing; Large video clip, music, and image art documents can easily choke your company’s e-mail system. And also e-mailing vulnerable documents could raise security worries. Several cloud storage providers currently offer drag and drop efficiency that allows you to safely and securely copy significant or confidential records.
Security; It could be counter-intuitive, but cloud storage is in fact a great deal more protected than many small to mid-sized businesses are able to do in-house. At many smaller organizations, locally filed data are at threat from theft, fire, software issues, and computer failure. Cloud storage will offer built-in redundancy at every level: hard disk, machine, and data center.
Always On; Whenever small to mid-sized businesses’s ISP goes offline, or when ones router fails, or even whenever the server has problems, or you (or perhaps a person in your IT personnel) pulls the incorrect switch, your complete company can lose usage of data and services. Cloud storage services must be professionals at uptime and service accessibility. Their particular uptime records are often a lot better than what can be done by yourself. Also, since many cloud storage providers cache data locally in addition to on the internet, even if the service goes down or perhaps you lose your online connection you’ve still got usage of important computer data.

April 15, 2010 by Filip Tack · 2 Comments
We are happy to announce a new product enhancement to Nomadesk for Windows that integrates FileLink with Outlook 2007 and 2010.
From now on Nomadesk users are able to email large files such as photos, graphics, videos and presentations through a password-protected link of a file that resides in a Nomadesk fileserver. When emailing an attachment, and using Microsoft Outlook, you will be given the option to send a FileLink vs. the actual file. By selecting the FileLink option, you benefit in the following ways:
- Secure, password-protected file transfer in seconds
- Send large file attachments (100MB and more)
- Email system is offloaded
- Attached files are automatically archived and made available on a Nomadesk Fileserver
- Attached files are backed up and synchronized to the Cloud
- File expiration and controlled distribution of your files
- Ability to still update the attachments after they were sent
The new FileLink is standard to Nomadesk for Windows and you are free to try Nomadesk for 30 days. Existing users can simply upgrade to the latest version on our download page.
Here is a short video on how the add-in actually works.
Nomadesk Broadens File Sharing Capabilities with FolderLink
December 22, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment
SMBs and SOHO customers, Mobile Professionals and Digital Nomads Can Securely Share Folders of Photos, Presentations or Any Important Content with a Click
New York, NY – December 21, 2009 – Nomadesk, developer of the easiest and most secure on-demand file sharing software, today announced FolderLink, a new feature that allows Nomadesk customers to share complete folders containing large files, photos, presentations or videos publicly through an email link, even if the recipient isn’t a Nomadesk user. Rather than relying on email or FTP to try to send large files, Nomadesk created FolderLink to more easily and securely share a large amount of content in one click. SMBs or professionals interested in test driving Nomadesk can download a free 30-day trial at Nomadesk.com.
“The beauty of Nomadesk is that users can seamlessly share content without the limitations of email attachments,” said Nomadesk CEO Filip Tack. “We expanded the concept of our FileLink capability to include folders of content with FolderLink. Now users can securely share photo albums with family members without requiring them to sign up for a social media site, or share presentations with business colleagues without having to worry about formatting issues because Nomadesk supports all applications.” Graphics designers can share complete folders with all sorts of collateral.
What Nomadesk Technology Does
Millions of people risk losing their unprotected, critical data every day. As the amount of unprotected data stored on multiple devices increases, it becomes harder to synchronize and easier to lose. Nomadesk allows individuals and teams to secure, sync, share and backup data with no limits or change in behavior, giving them access to their files when working online and offline. Nomadesk’s virtual drives act just like a hard drive, storing important documents in one place with remote access. Users simply drag and drop their docs into the virtual file server, and files are immediately encrypted, backed up and available for file sharing. For added protection, Nomadesk’s TheftGuard technology protects content stored on mobile devices, allowing users to remotely shred important docs in the event of theft or lost hardware while keeping the data neatly tucked-away in the Cloud, in addition to tracking stolen or misplaced devices on Google Maps.
“Sharing folders of content has been an obstacle for all users,” said Joe Martins, Managing Director, Data Mobility Group. “Nomadesk continues to build new feature sets to make their product a true collaboration tool. With FolderLink you can share an entire folder by simply sending a public link. It’s a simplified FTP-like service!”

Nomadesk Helps SMBs Combat Productivity Loss From H1N1 Pandemic
November 17, 2009 by Jacques De Bruyne · 1 Comment
New York, NY – November 17, 2009 – Operating virtually is becoming ever more important for small businesses. Over the past decade, companies working from virtual offices have received many benefits over their brick and mortar counterparts. With issues such as the H1N1 pandemic looming over small businesses, Nomadesk, developer of the easiest and most secure on-demand file sharing software, is bringing solace to many of its SMB and SOHO customers. Small businesses challenged with paid sick leave policies and the inability to plan for productivity losses should their small office become contaminated with the flu, can begin looking at cost-effective ways to set up their employees to work from home if needed. Check out Nomadesk Blog for ongoing tips and tricks.
Now, without having to invest large sums of money to build a VPN infrastructure, or invest in IT and software maintenance, small businesses can provide VPN-like features to their employees for a low monthly fee with Nomadesk. Nomadesk is a virtual file server that allows employees to access their work from anywhere, anytime. Documents are encrypted, saved, synchronized and backed up both locally and on the way to the cloud, making it seamless for employees to work from home. Nomadesk gives individuals access to their files when working online and offline. Nomadesk’s virtual drives act just like a hard drive, storing important documents in one place with remote access. Users simply drag and drop their docs into the virtual file server, and files are immediately encrypted, backed up and available for file sharing.
According to the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, tens of millions of people, or nearly 40 percent of workers in America receive no paid sick leave. With the H1N1 flu spreading across the U.S, this statistic takes on added importance. If workers can’t afford to take time off, the flu has a better chance of spreading through workplaces and even schools. Kids are showing up sick because parents can’t be home with them. Even some companies that provide paid sick days have policies that make it difficult to call in sick, like giving demerits each time someone misses a day.
“As legislation is working feverishly on enforcing paid sick leave for all businesses so as to stop the spread of H1N1,” said Nomadesk CEO Filip Tack, “companies can begin to look at ways to help their employees be able to stay home with sick kids, or fully recover from the flu by setting them up to work virtually from home. Nomadesk is a low-cost tool that lets small businesses quickly and easily give their employees access to their work files from home in a very secure way.”
Nomadesk is the most affordable product on the market offering unlimited* storage, online/offline access and giving an unlimited number of team members access to virtual file servers. Whether using Nomadesk in the office, at home, or on the go, small businesses can stay connected and productive while ensuring their data is protected (256-bit encryption), available to share (accessible to unlimited team members), synchronized and backed up from both their PCs, laptops (with MyNomadesk.com) or cell phone (with MyNomadesk.mobi). SMBs interested in test driving Nomadesk can download a free 30-day trial at Nomadesk.com.
“Other tools such as Skype, Gmail, GoToMeeting and WebEx allow employees to participate in company meetings from home, giving them the ability to be face-to-face if they choose,” added Filip Tack. “So, for a nominal investment in technology, companies can add some insurance to their livelihood, even when fear of H1N1 looms.”
