Nomadesk Widget

The latest release of Nomadesk offers many improvements to the FolderLink feature. One new addition is taking folder sharing to the next level. The Nomadesk ‘Embed in your site’ option for folders allows you to create a widget for your web site or blog. The widget can be used to share the contents of any folder on your Team Fileserver. There is also an option to allow users to upload files to your folder and syncs the new files to your fileserver.

The applications can be as simple as sharing press releases in a press-room format or as robust as having an FTP-like interface in a password protected area of your web site. There’s no need to have access to the back-end of a web site once the widget is installed to update files on the site. Simply add them to the folder via the desktop client or mynomadesk.com and they will automatically be accessible through the widget.

Making Your Widget

Adding the widget to your web site is quick and easy. Here’s how:

1.  Logon to your account at mynomadesk.com

2.  Select the folder you want to embed, click on the arrow and select ‘Embed in your site’.

3.  Configure the widget:

a. Your web site address

b. The title you would like to appear at the top of your widget

c. The default view (thumbnail, preview or list)

d. The dimensions in pixels you would like the widget

e. Options for showing date and size of the file

f. Check to allow public to upload files

4.  You can preview the widget or click ‘create’ to get the embed code.

5.  Copy the code and paste it into the selected place on your web site.

Now you are ready to share files directly from your web site. For a video demonstration of how the widget works, check out this demo given by Nomadesk CEO Filip Tack.
