The company says its data security capabilities drove increased sales to enterprise customers and helped it enlist new reseller partners during a period when the market paid considerable attention to security breaches in cloud solutions.

“Recent events make it clear: effective, reliable security in online file sharing is imperative,” said Nomadesk CEO Darren Trumeter. “In this environment, more people see Nomadesk as a perfect solution because we offer several security elements that provide additional insurance against online or offline attacks.”

Nomadesk has significantly expanded its sales force and recruited new partners to resell its products globally. The company signed 25 new partners in the first half and many are already deploying its solution to their customer bases.

Trumeter added that customers are impressed with several other benefits Nomadesk provides, including the ability to:

Locally encrypt files on the computer’s hard drive for added security.

Remotely block access to files if a computer is stolen.

Access files through the operating system’s file manager (Windows Explorer and Mac Finder).

Access files while not connected to the Internet.

Access files on a wide range of mobile devices (iPad, iPhone, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, Android).

Nomadesk customers span the globe, with 55 percent in Europe, 35 percent in the United States and 10 percent throughout the rest of the world.

Since I joined Nomadesk at the beginning of May I’ve worked on three laptops, one desktop computer, and 2 smart phones… seamlessly. It all began when I started using a personal Windows laptop for my work/travel machine while occasionally using my personal Windows home desktop machine (for those weekend occasions when I had to quickly switch from YouTube or Facebook to work and didn’t feel like going to get my other machine). My personal laptop crapped out so I replaced it with another personal Windows laptop while at the same time ordering a new MacBook Pro so I could finally get my “official” Nomadesk machine. As it turns out, 2 weeks after transitioning to my new MacBook I discovered it was one of the first 64-bit Macs and our development team quickly needed a machine for testing – I gave my machine over for the cause and went back to my personal laptop.

How is this all possible without a tremendous drain on productivity? In my case the answer was Nomadesk; and it was a great way for me to learn the real value of the service. Every time I switched machines (and platforms) I shared my files to the new device, they were copied locally, and I had easy local access to all of my files on every computer. And by the way, this is about 15-20GB of files – all transferred seamlessly. (The transition was also made simple by another service called Xmarks that allows me to sync bookmarks across all my browsers and computers.)

What I found most interesting about this experience is that I now feel like I couldn’t live without the Nomadesk service, whereas just a few months ago I didn’t even realize I needed something like Nomadesk. This is a conversation we have internally on a regular basis – how do we get people to use Nomadesk when they don’t realize how badly they need Nomadesk? We know that once you start using it, you realize what you were missing out on. In a lot of ways its similar to a smartphone where (for those of us that have them) can no longer image life without them – but didn’t realize we were missing anything before we got them.

So here I sit responsible for marketing an invaluable product that no one knows is invaluable. I’m open to ideas and would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below. In the mean time, I need to order a new Nomadesk laptop so I can transition back off my personal machine.

Today Nomadesk put out a press release announcing the addition of two new executives (including myself) to the team. This is an exciting time at Nomadesk and our growth has resulted in the need for additional resources to support our global expansion. With these two hires the Nomadesk executive team is now split between the US and Europe (with three executives in each continent) emphasizing the priority Nomadesk places on providing a solution that works globally. In reference to the two new hires, Darren Trumeter, Nomadesk CEO said:

“Both John and Mike bring exceptional, proven leadership to our company and we are excited about the direction they will bring to the marketing, product and sales teams. They are a great match for Nomadesk and will be key assets in our commitment to leading the international file-sharing market.”

I’ve been with Nomadesk since the beginning of May and I continue to be impressed with the product, the people, and the overall passion to help our customers. I look forward to engaging more with our existing customers, partners and prospects to hear how we can continue to improve.

Did you know that Nomadesk is already used in over 50 countries? We are quite proud of our international acceptance as a file sharing and storage solution and we are about to add another country to this list – Japan. Well, we already have customers in Japan but we’re sure they will be happy with this announcement. We are adding a Japanese version of our software and partnering with a local cloud services organization named bplats to better serve the Japanese market. More details on this exciting partnership can be found in our press release here.

Below is a video from our co-founder and General Manager of EMEA, Filip Tack, welcoming bplats and conveying our support as we expand further into the Japanese market. (Filip might look a little stiff in this video but he really is a fun guy!)

It’s a Social world and we’re just living in it… but are we taking advantage of it? Companies all around are looking for ways to create a following on their social networks. What do consumers get out of it? FREE STUFF.

Free stuff comes in many forms. Two common forms are free products or services and free recognition. Cisco’s Facebook Page, for example, gives recognition to one “SuperFan” and places them in their Page Profile Picture. We believe, however, that the most important form is free insight and information.

Cisco's Facebook Profile Picture

Now, let’s think about this… I could maybe win some kind of product or service on Facebook by Liking a certain company, but the odds of that happening are slim to none. I could maybe be placed in a very well-known Pages’ Profile Picture so that everyone who sees their Page sees my face too, yippee? OR I could Like a Page and join a community where I get to hear about and take part in stuff that I have an interest in. Personally I like the benefits of learning from my online social interactions – and thankfully so does Nomadesk. So that’s our goal to bring people together where Nomadesk can provide valuable information and the community can provide additional valuable insights.

Through our social media efforts, Nomadesk provides our followers the most valuable insight and information about file management, file sharing, and the cloud computing industry. For example, we’ll go on our Facebook Page and share an article we found about security issues. Then we’ll provide information on how you can keep your files safe in the cloud. You, along with other Fans will comment, providing information on what you all do to keep your files safe, and in the end you will get all the information you need about security in the cloud.

Facebook Comment about bug in Windows Phone Nomadesk

If you wanted to make some product related suggestions you could also write on our wall, or comment on a post telling us what the problem is. Recently we posted a link to our new Windows Phone App. We asked Fans for feedback and we got a comment explaining a problem one of our users had. That comment was given to the product manager and in our next version of the Windows Phone App, we fixed the problem that he had.

We are also active on LinkedIn and we understand you probably expect something a little different in that medium. On LinkedIn you’ll find a slightly more serious tone with reviews of Nomadesk and open job postings at Nomadesk.

Nomadesk is also part of Vator, a social network for new startups and entrepreneurs. You can find your friends’ startups, follow exciting new companies, and hear about all the new companies forming around interesting (and crazy) ideas.

We use our Twitter Page to inform our Followers about all the social media content we produce on ALL of our social networking websites. So you could follow a company in hopes of winning one of their contests or being placed in one of their profile pictures for a day, OR you could use your resources and find valuable information on the things that are important in your life. One and done. We hope the Nomadesk approach to social media works for you. Your feedback is appreciated below or on any of our social media sites!

Nomadesk’s unique cloud computing portal enables service providers to create “private label” cloud storage, file sharing and synchronization solutions. Meet us for a demo at GSMA Mobile World Congress 2011, booth 2H33.

Today we announce the commercial launch of our Reseller and Affiliate portal. This unique online platform gives service providers the ability to sell customers world-class technology so they can access, share, synchronize and safeguard files from any location, whether online or offline.

With “household” and emerging brands capping pricing and reducing profitability for service providers, it has become more difficult for MSPs, ISPs and telcos to maintain a competitive edge and invest in the technology to market, sell and support SaaS services. To make matters worse, new devices with locked-down business models (e.g., iPhone and iPad) make it increasingly risky to pursue a multi-platform application strategy; yet again end-customers do require this! The Nomadesk Reseller and Affiliate portal untangles the “deadlock” on behalf of the Managed Service Provider, ISP and operator.

“With the new reseller and affiliate portal we have created a true pay-as-you-grow platform that allows our partners to significantly extend their service offering, risk-free”, explains Darren Trumeter, CEO of Nomadesk. “We like to think of our portal as an equalizer in the SaaS arms race; at least where cloud storage, file sharing and multi-device synchronization is concerned. We are supported in our efforts by the fact that the portal already has gained the trust of some large European service providers.”

The Nomadesk Reseller and Affiliate portal includes:

Complete branding possibility: The platform allows for a complete branding of the Nomadesk software, leveraging the Reseller’s brand equity.

Full customer ownership by the service provider: The Portal offers proprietary billing and invoicing capabilities, therefore ensuring full customer ownership by the service provider. Thanks to the Nomadesk API, even more thoroughly integrated service offerings are supported.

Campaign tracking: To assist Resellers and Affiliates in their commercial efforts, the portal also includes a comprehensive campaign-tracking feature.

No operational hassle, strong SLA: Nomadesk hosts the Nomadesk Reseller and Affiliate portal in its SAS 70 Type II and PCI certified datacenters, relieving the service provider from the operational hassle and costs associated with capacity planning. However, where appropriate, deployments within the service provider’s datacenter are supported.

Protection of personal data: The Nomadesk hosting services are aligned with Directive 95/46/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data (http://nmd.sk/ATqiODEe).

Becoming a Partner

Interested partners can apply for a Reseller or Affiliate partnership at: http://www.nomadesk.com/about/partnerprogram/. The partner applications will be processed swiftly.

Last weekend a laptop of the well-known Belgian music band The Subs got stolen from one of their cars.
A sad loss especially because their latest non-published CD production was on it. Not back-upped… sadly!

Well, we can’t bring their laptop back (though we urge the thief to do the right thing), but we can prevent that they ever lose an unfinished production again. Plus we can make sure that they can track their laptop when it’s stolen.
We tried contacting the guys via e-mail, in vain. Via this way we want to offer them again free Nomadesk accounts for as long as they produce music. Because we know how irritating data loss and a stolen laptop can be.

As large companies are on a hunt to acquire cloud service companies, the indirect sales channel is sometimes neglected. To give just a few examples, Humyo.com has been acquired by Trend Micro, LaCie acquired Wuala, Rackspace Acquired JungleDisk,…

A small compilation on how we see the future of Nomadesk and the channel:

How will cloud computing affect resellers?

We can’t predict how the cloud is going to evolve, but we do know that technology is evolving and the cloud will be disruptive for certain technologies. Okay, the cloud might not be replacing technology but it certainly is shifting the way applications and resources are delivered towards the service provider.
Should you be worried? To quote Mary Schmich (the wear sunscreen song) “Don’t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum.” The answer is No, this is actually a call to action. At Nomadesk, we are fortunate to be one of the pioneers to provide a service that will benefit both customers and the channel.

What about Nomadesk and resellers?

We are now almost 7 years actively delivering services in the cloud and actively selling Nomadesk cloud services for over two years. This resulted in a large customer base and important deals with large resellers and OEMs (among them are Telenet, Novatel, Bell Canada,…)

How will Nomadesk support its resellers?

Resellers and solution providers have different needs when it comes to selling a service. A reseller builds upon a long term relation with their customers and approaches them with correct and timely information tailored on their business. A reseller is looking for new ways to improve efficiency and adapts quickly to the customers’ needs and proposes new ways to increase business in a changing economic landscape.

To support its partners, Nomadesk offers a fully white labeled secure file storage and back-up solution. With strong key selling points and advanced features, Nomadesk distinguishes itself from the competition:

Security (256 bit encryption)

Backup

File Synchronization

File Sharing

Data protection (Theftguard)

P.S. More information on our reseller and affiliate program can be found here.
